My collection of rail images were mainly recorded in & around my native Northeast prior to electrification. There were regular visits to the Settle & Carlisle line in the early 80s to mid 90s.The majority of images in this collection were mainly taken on the section of line between Appleby & Ribblehead.
The introduction of ETH large logo class 37s on the West Highland line, led to the odd weekly holiday in Tyndrum. My collection covers the area from Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy.Trying to capture these locos at work in decent light was at best frustrating & we often returned home empty handed, hence the small amount of images in this collection.
By the late 90s my interest in the railway scene started to diminish, mainly due to the lack of variation in traction & the reduction of loco hauled passenger services.I started to record locos in preservation & the odd charter train, until finally giving up railway photography
in 2002,although I'm still partial to the odd S&C shot now and again even if its just to meet up with old friends.
In late 2002 I decided to turn my attentions to landscape photography, after being inspired by the work of Joe Cornish & Colin Prior, who are,in my opinion, two of the UKs top landscape photographers. If anyone is interested in taking a look at my landscape work it can now be viewed at www.chrisaddisphotography.co.uk which there is a link within this site. I hope you enjoy viewing my collection of rail images, mostly taken from a bygone era.
EQUIPMENT INFORMATION.-All rail images were captured using a medium format Pentax 6x7 camera, unless otherwise stated.Film stock was mainly Ektachrome 200 or laterly Agfachrome RS200 & recently Fuji Provia 100F transparency film.Images are scanned using a Hasselblad (Imacon) Flextight 646 virtual drum scanner.
